On Tuesday, October 2, the Public Works department will be starting a 3-month pilot project for the recycling of cardboard and paper on Greene Avenue. This program will serve merchants on both sides of Greene Avenue between Sherbrooke and Ste-Catherine Streets with a door-to-door collection of recyclable paper & cardboard from the rear lanes. The collection will take place every Tuesday starting at noon.

During this pilot project the mobile recycling trailer will not be parked on Greene Avenue.

  EVERY EFFORT COUNTS TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY

The City of Westmount is introducing an innovative curbside recycling programme for merchants and other small- to medium-sized businesses in the community. Business owners have asked for this service and Westmount’s Public Works department has carried out much research and planning to make this programme a reality.

A mobile recycling depot will now be available in the City’s commercial districts on a weekly rotation schedule. This means easy access to recycling without taking up sidewalk space or increasing vehicle traffic in our busy shopping districts.

Look for the giant blue box
On weekdays, a large blue mobile recycling container will be parked at different locations within Westmount’s shopping districts for several hours at a time according to the schedule included here. Please note that the location of the container within the block may vary slightly from week to week.

Preparing your materials
Effective November 15, 2012 – due to the high level of contamination of material placed in the recycling trailer and following complaints from the treatment site, the Public Works department has modified the trailer to accept only paper and cardboard.

Please ensure that:
  • all items are clean and free of food residue.
  • all cardboard boxes are empty and flattened.
Points to remember:
  • It is strictly forbidden to leave material on the ground surrounding the trailer.
  • Only paper and cardboard is accepted in the recycling trailer.
  • Clean plastic, metal and glass containers can be recycled at the permanent depot located at the Public Works yard, 1 rue Béthune.
  • If you miss the collection on your street, you can bring your materials to the container at any other location according to the schedule above, or to the permanent depot at the Public Works Yard on Bethune Street.
