Garbage Collection
Garbage is picked up once a week. In the eastern section of Westmount, collections are on Thursdays; in the western section, on Fridays. There is no garbage collection on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, weekends and the following public holidays: December 25(Christmas Day) and January 1st (New Year's Day).
Garbage must be left at the rear of buildings or in a city-designated area and should not be put out the night before collection. All refuse must be out by 8 a.m. on collection days and must be securely enclosed in bags, even when in containers.
Special disposal is required for the following items:

Commercial waste is the responsibility of business owners if it exceeds 6 regular bags per collection day.

Bulky items (appliances and furniture) should be placed at the front on garbage day; please advise Public Works at 514 989-5311. Usable appliances and furniture are accepted at Montreal's Eco-Centres.

Used appliances are often collected by retailers when a new one is delivered; check with your supplier. Otherwise, appliances may be placed outside at the front on garbage day, but Public Works must be advised the day before or the morning of the collection at 514 989-5311 to ensure they will be recycled. Appliances may also be brought to the scrap metal depot at the Public Works Yard on Bethune Street.

Metal items are accepted at the scrap metal depot at the Public Works Yard.

Refrigerators and other appliances containing CFCs should be placed outside at the front on garbage day, but Public Works must be advised the day before or the morning of the collection at 514 989-5311.

Renovation and construction debris is NOT accepted in the regular collection and must be disposed of by private contractor or brought to an Eco-Centre.

Christmas trees are collected in season and chipped for mulch. Remove all decorations and place the tree on the lawn behind the sidewalk. For more information, call Public Works, 514 989-5311.
