The rule in Westmount
A nationwide leader in vehicle-idling regulations, Westmount strengthened its restrictions on idling in 2006 with amendments to the By-law concerning street traffic (726).

Today, vehicle idling is limited to 3 minutes within a 1 hour period on any public or private property in the city. Violators could face a $75 fine for the first offence. Commercial entities like delivery companies are subject to even stiffer penalties, with a fine of $141 for the first offence.
