Roads and Water Works
Repairs and construction on the CPR railway infrastructure in Westmount
Please note that CP Rail will carry out important repair and construction work on the Westmount section of train tracks during 2012 and 2013. The next phase of the project, beginning the week of April 16th, which includes the relocation of fibre optic cables and a soil analysis, will take two to three weeks. Beginning early May, excavation and other earthworks will be carried out for a period of approximately eight weeks to prepare for an extension of the third rail line planned for the fall of this year. Given the heavy commuter traffic on this rail line daily, some work must be carried out during the night. This will increase productivity, reduce the number of weeks required for the project and therefore lessen the impact on nearby residents. Measures to mitigate these impacts will be in place throughout the project, including careful planning for access to the site as well as the movement of equipment within the right-of-way, as well as controls on how lighting is used on the site. In addition, because the work will be carried out in a small section, advancing by 100 metres per night, the activity will not be in the same area for long periods. Please note that only the preparatory work (relocation of cables and soil analysis) will be carried out during the night; other kinds of work will take place during the day.
